Scratchman - August 09, 2023
So to I don't want to leave this page blank but I haven't finished a book in a month or so. So ive decided to talk about the last book that I read this summer, the Doctor Who book Scratchman by Tom Baker and James Goss. This was actually the first book from the doctor who franchise that i've read so far, and i really liked it. the story is kinda seperated into two parts but the first part is kinda a prelude to the second. this book features the 4th Doctor and his original tardis team, Harry Sullivan and Sarah Jane Smith, and basically they go to hell and face off against the devil. It's kinda funny to me because the devil, the Scratchman, also goes by Scratch and he's a guy wearing a suit with a glowing white ball of fire as a head. So he's like Doc Scratch from Homestuck. anyways. there's some good body horror in this one. for example at one point a guy gets forcefully turned into a scarecrow and the description of it is gruesome and goes on for two pages. it's good. Even though it sounds like this book is kinda dark (ngl it is), that doesn't stop it from getting a little bit silly in between. The whole drive from the tardis with Charon is pretty fun is memory serves, and 13 just kinda shows up for a bit in the middle and in the epilogue for next to no reason. even the way that the Doctor beats the Scratchman is a bit ridiculous, but yk. im glad it doesnt take itself too seriously, cause i think doctor who is best that way. At the same time, it's quite evident that Tom Baker and James Goss have a really good grasp on the 4th Doctor's character, and Sarah and Harry are done well too (harry is a bit of an imbicile, of course). Uh yeah basically it's a good read and a really good 4th Doctor story. would recommend :3.
